Uyeno Transtech Established a New Company, SU Navigation Pte. Ltd., in Singapore
Uyeno Transtech established SU Navigation Pte. Ltd. (Capital: S$2M) in Singapore as a 50/50 joint venture with Shokuyu Tanker (Capital: 96M yen, President: Naoto Toyama), a company engaged in domestic, ocean and near-sea transportation of animal/vegetable oil and petrochemical products. By effectively utilizing the two companies’ advantages and increasing the economy of scale through the consolidation of fleets, this joint venture aims to strengthen competitiveness in the market.
With a 8,500DWT type model built in 2004 as its core vessel, the company will operate 9 or 10 vessels and is scheduled to start its service between December 2004 and January 2005. Mr. Zen Uyeno (CEO) takes the post of chairman and Mr. Naoto Toyama (COO) serves as president. SU Navigation will base its operation at its Singapore head office and Tokyo branch office.

M/T OXALIS JASMINE, A New 7,000KL Tanker Dedicated to Jet Fuel Transportation, Launched
Oxalis Shipping Co. Pte. Ltd., a Singapore-based company of Uyeno Transtech, launched MT “OXALIS JASMINE”(4,220 G/T), at Naikai Zosen/Nichizo IMC in Innoshima City, Hiroshima. The vessel is a new 7,000KL tanker dedicated to jet fuel transportation and is the sister ship of MT SUNRISE LILY currently in service. She will be sent to Singapore to transport jet fuel to Changi International Airport after final completion in October.

SAP Enforcement Started
The Uyeno Group had been conducting ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) project since 2002, and SAP R/3 was enforced simultaneously throughout the group on November 1, 2003.
By the enforcement of SAP R/3, operational consolidation of accounting and personnel administration has been realized and future logistics will be expanded further.

Uyeno Safety Academy Opened
Road Transport Company of Uyeno Transtech opened an educational facility within the compound of Higashi Nihon Uyeno Yuso, a group company, aiming for mastery of high level of skill by the tank-truck drivers and for their knowledge level-up. As a cargo operation facility, simulated loading equipment, unloading equipment and an on-the-ground tank have been installed in the sheltered facility of 624 square meters. 4 mobile flow meters are also present; therefore, all types of filling stations can be assumed for training. A lecture room which can accommodate up to 40 drivers for in-camp training is also available.

Toyama Office Established/Operation Started
Being awarded of the contract for Exxon Mobil Hokuriku Area, Chubu Uyeno Yuso newly opened an office in Fushiki, Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture and started its operation with 19 tank trucks.

Mr. Takashi Uyeno, CEO, honored by Minister of MLIT on “Marine Day 2003” for his contributions to the maritime industry.
Mr. Takashi Uyeno, representative director and CEO, received a certificate of commendation from the Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on “Marine Day 2003.” This honor recognizes Mr. Uyeno’s many years of contributions to the maritime industry, particularly the promotion of coastal transportation business and the development of the transport industry. The commendation ceremony was held at Japan Marine Transport Club in Hirakawa-cho, Tokyo.

Mr. Takashi Uyeno, CEO, takes office as President of the Japan Coastal Tanker Association.
Mr. Takashi Uyeno, representative director and CEO, was appointed President of the Japan Coastal Tanker Association at its 39th general meeting held on June 17. Upon inauguration, Mr. Uyeno expressed his hopes by saying, “In order for the coastal tanker industry to perform better, the association hopes to provide services to help its members make self-reliant efforts to resolve such urgent tasks as stabilization of freight rates and charter hire, smooth implementation of transitional measures, and conformity with stricter environmental safety standards on the basis that every member focus on self-responsibility in the management of their business.”

Training program for industry workers of oil-producing countries conducted.
Based on a request from the Japan Cooperation Center, Petroleum (JCCP), the Uyeno Group conducted a training program for workers of oil-producing countries on logistics and personnel management, including observation of ships and tank trucks in operation. Participants came from more than ten countries, including national companies in China and Iran. This is a program that will continue in the future.

Mr. Yutaka Uyeno’s autobiography published.
In November, Chairman Yutaka Uyeno celebrated his 88th birthday and published his autobiography which details his career to date. The book also describes Mr. Uyeno’s childhood memories, business undertakings, and his involvement in the revitalization of the local community as Chairman of the Yokohama Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Newly built 6,000KL clean oil tankers, “SHOSEI MARU” and “YUYO MARU,” commissioned.
Uyeno Transtech Ltd. started operation of two newly-built 6,000KL clean oil tankers.
“SHOSEI MARU”(3,750G/T), owned by Taiyo Kaihatsu, was put into service on November 28, 2002, to service the coastal waters of Japan; “YUYO MARU”(3,789G/T), owned by Mitsukoshi Kaiun, was to go into service shortly thereafter on November 30th. With the addition of these two tankers, our fleet totals six 6,000KL coastal tankers, giving us strengthened capability during our peak winter season when customers require the most efficient operation and transportation.

A 6,000KL tanker is the largest coastal ship, and with its large tank capacity and highest safety standards in the country, it enhances the overall stability and safety of our transportation system.

Newly built 2,600KL lubricating oil tanker, “UWAKAI,” commissioned.
Sea Transport Company of Uyeno Transtech Ltd. started operation of the new 2,600KL lubricating oil tanker, “UWAKAI”(999G/T), which was built by its owner, Uwakai Kisen. In the days ahead, she will be operated mainly in Yokohama, Yokkaichi, and Kobe as a lubricating oil tanker dedicated to Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. This ship is equipped with the highest safety measures, in accordance with the standards set forth by Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF), and has an independent cargo line system consisting of six cargo tanks, three lines and three pumps. These additions help us to achieve a high level of quality control and transportation efficiency when loading and carrying various cargo grades. The ship loaded its first cargo in Yokkaichi and sailed for Yokohama.

Disaster prevention tug boat, “NAGAURA,” completed.
Isewan Bosai K.K. completed construction of the disaster prevention tug boat, “NAGAURA,” at Kanagawa Dockyard in Kobe, which was subsequently delivered on October 23, 2002. The ship is the replacement for “ANEI,” and will be engaged in line-handling work for the LNG carriers calling on Chita City, Aichi Prefecture, and various works in Yokkaichi Port beginning in November, 2002.

August 21, 2002 Newly built 6,000KL clean oil tanker, “Shinmichi Maru,” commissioned.
Sea Transport Company of Uyeno Transtech Ltd. started operation of a new 6,000KL clean oil tanker, “SHINMICHI MARU” (3,785G/T), built by Eiwa Kaiun in Murakami Hide Shipyard based on the public offering of last autumn. For this company, the 6,000KL ship is the fourth of its kind. She will be used to transport clean oil for Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. throughout the coastal areas of Japan, as well as on the near-sea route for Iwo Jima.
This ship is equipped with the highest safety measures, in accordance with the standards set forth by Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF). She has a double-hull structure and a six-cargo-oil-tank system for improved safety and efficiency of transportation and operation. As she is to operate in areas such as Iwo Jima where there are effectively no port facilities, she is equipped with a cargo hose of 540 meters in length and a reel to recover the hose.
