Initiatives within Shipping
Ensuring safe transportation, loading, and unloading of hazardous and flammable liquids is an utmost priority. In addition to our extensive safety management regulations, we have achieved voluntary certification under the international standard ISM Code to further strengthen our commitment to safety.
We are also working to protect the marine environment and prevent air pollution, maritime and oil pollution mishaps, and ensure the safety of seafarers by providing them with a wide range of training including IT technology and expanding their professional expertise.

Introduction of Web-based Education Systems
We use an e-learning-based Seafarer education system to improve Seafarers’ knowledge!
Since 2017, we have been developing and utilizing a dedicated web-based learning system to increase training opportunities for Seafarers so they can acquire and improve the knowledge and skills required for safe navigation and safe cargo handling.
Seafarers can study at their own convenience during working hours and holidays and also use the platform to access important information.
This web-based education system was recognized and awarded the Transportation Safety Management Excellent Operator Award in October 2019.
Cloud-managed Alcohol Detection
We have implemented a smartphone app-based system to ensure and manage zero alcohol policies.
The alcohol detector introduced in 2018 is connected to a smartphone app, which automatically stores the detector's photo and readings in the cloud to prevent false reports. In the unlikely event of an alcohol violation, a notification is automatically sent to the administrator, preventing those violating the alcohol policy from being involved in the operation of the vessel.
This alcohol detection system complies with the revised Seafarers' Code of Practice on Alcohol Management for Seafarers, which came into operation in April 2020.
Proactive Use of Communication Tools
Development and introduction of tablets and original apps
In 2019, we introduced tablet terminals for all managed vessels as one of the communication tools between ships and land.
We contracted with a system company implementing a dedicated app to communicate shipping movements.
Previously this was accomplished by fax whereas current future operations are now paperless.
During the Covid pandemic, ship visits became impossible. We expeditiously implemented web visits utilizing a web based conferencing system.
Recently, we have been aiming to establish safer ship-berthing operations by providing live-berthing coverage using a combination of a web based conferencing system, live AIS information, and exchanging information with shipowners.
Towards a New Generation of Safety
Toward Autonomous Vessels
We are aiming to establish ship safety technology for the near future!
As part of our Wadatsumi Project (approved by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism for our Advanced Vessel Introduction Project) we are aiming to introduce manned autonomous vessels.
We are working on step-by-step research and development to build an advanced navigation support system (including a remote operation center on land) and to introduce it to domestic vessels.
